Working Dogs
Here, I will share with you, some of the letters, photos and newspaper
articles I receive from Law Enforcement Officers and SAR Personnel,
who work Bloodhounds born at Lake Bloodhound Kennels and rescued
from shelters across the country.

Just wanted to reach for you and
wish you a very Merry Christmas.
Clue and I recently attended a
Bloodhound Seminar in
Sanford, FL and Clue certified
with the United States
Mantrailing Association.
He is doing really well, attached
are a couple pictures for you
and a note from one of the guys
I met at the seminar who ran
into someone who has one the
litter.
Talk Soon,
Happy Holidays!

Luis and K9 Clue
While we were doing a
grid search I came across
a Bloodhound that looked
remarkably like your
"Clue." Remember, I don't
have a clue, you do!
Anyway, to show how
small the world can be, I
told this lady that I had met
this Palm Beach County
Sheriff at the Mark Holmes
Seminar and he had a
Bloodhound that looked
just like hers. I told her
Clue's name and she
said, "Small world" this is
Clue's Brother, Ripley I
believe was his name.
Best looking Bloodhounds
I have ever seen!

Stay safe and Happy
Holiday's, Martin S Longest
Here's a picture of me and Elvis
in Waveland, Mississippi
following Hurricane Katrina.

Elvis helped track down looters
in the area of Bay St. Louis and
Waveland while on a 9 day trip
to the Gulf coast in September.

Over the course of 2 months in
2005, bloodhound Elvis was
deployed on a child who
repeatedly ran away.  The child
had numerous mental
disorders and would routinely
run into a swamp area whever it
rained.  All 3 times Elvis was
told to find the child, he found
him.  On 2 of the calls, the 11
year old child was located by
Elvis deep in a swamp.  On the
other call, Elvis found him hiding
in a tool shed behind the house.

Over the past year, Elvis has
also found an armed robbery
suspect, along with several
other missing persons and
criminals.

Elvis is now in his 6th year of
helping locate missing persons
and criminals on the run.

We're getting to the point of
considering our options when
Elvis reaches the point where
he can't work or if something
else happens to him.  He is at
"that age".  Would we be able to
get a pup or 2??  Is Elvis too old
to breed?

SAR Team:  SW FL K-9 Search
Unit Certified track/trail dog
Finds:  Several Alzhemier
patients, a 10 year old boy,
tracked a babysitter and child
out of town (they left in a
vehicle), tracked an escaped
psych patient to I-75, and
travelled north until exhausted -
patient found in NY a few weeks
later, placed a perp. at the
scene of a crime, is working a
case over in Broward county
now that's 3 months old. Ripley
came into SE Bloodhound
Rescue as an abused puppy.
For the past 5 years, he's been
on a SAR team, been through
obedience, and has his CGC.
He's worked with the US
Disaster Team, Dog Training
Center's of Tampa, Orange
County SAR, and CUE Centers
for Missing Person's.
We've travelled as far as the pan
handle, and were prepared to fly
to Kansas to assist with a
search.
Letting you know that
Gracey is doing
exceptionally well in her
training. We recently
completed an 80 hour
state law enforcement
certified man trailing
course. There where two
NPBA instructors there,
and both commented that
she is an outstanding
hound, as good as they
have seen given her age
with unlimited potential.

She was also filmed and
shown in a clip on
Chicago TV news. I will
send you a tape. It is only a
few minutes long.

Also, are you a member of
the National Bloodhound
Association? If so, will you
please sponsor me? I
would like to take her to
Pennsylvania next month
for a trailing trial.

Thanks,
Mark
I was called out last night, (1245
AM) to a subdivision in St Cloud,
in reference to a missing 10
year old boy, (with mental
issues and acted younger than
his age). The time lapse was
6-7 hours. He apparently left the
scene on foot with an unknown
DOT. I started Rex and we
tracked to the bus stop, (where
he went earlier in the day). For
some strange reason I tried a
different scent article, (pair of
jeans) and Rex tracked again to
the bus stop, then made a right
and tracked to an apartment
complex, (great track). This
apartment complex was about a
1/2 mile away. Rex tracked to a
breezeway and went crazy, he
started crying and acted like it
was an alert. I was aware of this
alert and I called in for a back up
officer to check several of these
apartments A few minutes later
the child ran out from the area in
front of the officers eyes. His
alert was within 20 feet of the
boy. That was so cool, to
actually located a missing
person at 3:30 AM, (9 hours
later). Without the exceptional
nose of my Bloodhound, who
knows what would have
happened to this boy. He could
have been abducted or injured
We safely returned this missing
boy to his family. The family was
so happy and they requested to
play with Rex for about 20
minutes. Rex had a blast as the
neighborhood made him feel
like a 1000 dollar bill. He was
prancing around like he was the
king I confirmed with the boy
about his track and Rex was on
him hard. Well now it's 4:51 AM
and Rex is sleeping and I'm still
awake, so I have to go to bed. I
want to thank all of the people
who have helped me over the
years to train Rex.

Sent: Thursday, February 24,
2005 11:32 PM I had a call out
tonight, which was a 40 year old
suicidal man who cut his wrist
and fled on foot. There was
blood on the front door and a
pair of shoes as a scent article.
Prior to starting the track our
aviation located this subject
laying down near a pond. I
pretended that avaition did not
locate him for training reasons. I
had two scent articles, 1 pair of
boots and some blood. I used
the boots and Rex picked the
blood instead. I guess he's
smarter than I am. I assumed,
(which we should never do), that
this subject went out the back
door and Rex would not track a
thing. I tried to get him to track
and he  wouldn't, well that's
because he did not go out the
back door. After staring at me
Rex ran to the front of the house
and began working like crazy, (I
believe he was picking up on
the blood drops on the ground).
Rex tracked across a dirt area at
which time, he began to alert,
(crying). He tracked to the area
of the subject and picked up on
his bloody tissue. Rex then went
to the ambulance and made his
alert. My point is this, Trust you
dog and don't listen to an
eyewitness. After tonight, I
believe Blood is a better scent
article than boots. Don could
you comment on this? Well we
had a good training session
and I learned a great deal
tonight about my hard headed
Bloodhound.

On September 28, 2004 at 0159
am a traffic stop was made on a
vehicle southbound on I 270, the
driver stopped his vehicle fled
from the vehicle westbound into
the woods. When I arrived on
scene around 0245 Columbus
police helicopter was already
searching for the suspect. I
scented Penny of the drivers
seat of the vehicle and she
started trailing, and we came up
to a six foot fence and I crossed
over the fence and another
officer picked Penny up and
gave her to me across the
fence. As we continued to trail,
the helicopter left. We continued
through the woods and thick
bushes, Penny found the
suspect in depression in the
ground in a thick bushy area.
The suspect was arrested for
fleeing and driving under
suspension.
Cheyenne and I were
involved in finding a 88
year old male last night in
a swamp..

Here are a couple of photos of
Copper's new friend Lee.  As
you can see Copper thinks Lee
is his new toy,  they run and play
like old buddies they love each
other.  Copper is doing great
healthy and happy.  Copper has
been finding lots of people last
night he caught a burgler.  He
has also found missing
children, suicidal people,
endangered adults and
criminals.
Hope all is well on your end, I'll
talk to you later
